Mobile Security Moving to Channel Forefront

With a variety of new mobile devices on the horizon (including a new iPhone from Apple expected next week), mobile security is becoming more important and emerging as a profit-making opportunity for channel partners.

According to a recent survey of IT staff conducted by Credant Technologies, smartphones are becoming more of a security risk than laptops and mobile security devices. No doubt this trend is going to accelerate as smartphones become more deeply embedded into the enterprise. The new iPhone, for example, is expected to offer greater support for corporate email. The fact is, security experts have been warning for months that smartphones make businesses every bit as vulnerable to security threats as laptops.

There's a real opportunity here for the channel to step forward with better security solutions for mobile devices. Vendors and carriers are becoming more aggressive about developing better security solutions and working with the channel to provide them. Motorola, for example, is releasing a new mobile security platform that will be sold thrugh VARs. Look for this trend to accelerate as mobile smartphones become more robust and are increasingly used as replacement devices for laptops
