Mobility, Emerging Markets Boosting Sales

Sales to emerging markets and the continued demand for mobile technology are boosting PC sales, according to latest market research firm Gartner. The research shows that global PC sales will rise 12.5 percent this year, despite concern abut the economic slowdown.

A news report from CBS MarketWatch says Gartner predicts mobile PC sales are expected to rise more than 30 percent this year. Price cuts, technology improvements and the rise of the mini-notebook are all factors fueling the growth.

The latest research suggests that channel players, especially those focused on providing mobile technology or tose involved in global partneships, will continue to do well this year, depite the current worries. One of the technology issues that still needs to be resolved is how the ongoing mobile revolution is going to play out for the channel. Will the enterprise embrace increasingly smarter smartphones or gravitate toward the increasingly smaller mini-notebook (which channel players like Acer, HP and Dell are bringing to market?) How will service and support requirements change as mobile solutions become even more entrenched? All of these issues will generate more interest from the channel if these sales predictions play out.
