Channel Shake-Up for Vendors

With the fourth quarter approaching,it must be time for channel shake-ups. Networking vendor Novell has appointed a new channel chief, while security vendor Trend Micro bids farewell to its own channel executive. Soon you may not be able to tell the channel players without a scorecard.

Novell appointed Javier Colado to the position of general manager, Partners. Colado replaces Pat Bernard, who left Novell in August after about a year at the company. Colado has held senior executive positions with Novell since 2006 and before that, with McAfee and Lucent. He'll be responsible for growing Novell's business through its 3,600 U.S. and 9,000 global channel partners.

Trend Micro, meanwhile, is losing Nancy Reynolds, its director of North American channel sales, to a startup Silicon Valley firewall company. Reynolds leveraged the channel to help Trend Micro gain share against market leader Symantec, whose channel strategy has been muddled during the last year or so. Reynolds has been at the company five years, and her departure came as a bit of a surprise. Trend Micro now is searching for a permanent replacement and has named Tom Miller, GM of its enterprise business unit, as an interim replacement.
